The Macro Currency Group is the specialist currency investment group within Principal Global Investors with over $3.5 billion in assets under management* for global institutional clients. The Macro Currency Group has been managing currency mandates on behalf of clients for over 17 years. The group’s management strategy is tailored to investor requirements and includes both leveraged and unleveraged absolute return strategies as well as benchmark-oriented strategic currency overlay.

The Macro Currency Group adopts a traditional Fundamental Discretionary management style in which currency investment returns are generated through the identification of global macroeconomic and investment themes that impact financial markets on a forward-looking basis. Currency markets are driven by cross border capital flows and the group’s investment process is designed to capture and predict the major investment themes that cause these flows. Investment themes can be specific to the currency market (e.g. exchange rate valuation), can come from other asset markets (such as equity, interest rate or commodity markets), can relate to domestic or global economic events or can be external shocks (such as political events or natural disasters). The Macro Currency Group’s investment philosophy has remained essentially unchanged since its inception.
