  • An early stumble. Some of February’s sharp job growth deceleration was likely noise. Beneath the headlines, there’s still enough strength in the Employment Situation Report to suggest a labor market on solid footing.
  • Weekly highlights. Tentative signs that the U.S. is breaking out of a post-financial-crisis productivity slump (finally). The global easing cycle restarts as the European Central Bank announces a new bank lending program and extended forward guidance.

  • Investment implications. Given the confusing message of the February jobs report, the Fed must be content with patience. That may change if wage pressures start to translate into inflation.
