With United States and China locked in an increasingly heated rivalry, the tense geopolitical environment carries material risks for investors looking towards EM Asia. If the shift in the U.S. political climate raises the likelihood of political interference in capital markets, Investors will inevitably need to factor these increased and meaningful political risks into their assessment of Chinese stocks and, by inference, EM Asia assets. Keeping a close eye on whichever way the EU leans in its political allegiance could offer clues for how to straddle both sides of an increasingly fractured relationship.
